We woke up at 1 a.m. to our ferocious beagle, Lucy, barking her head off. Zeek got up, looked around and saw nothing. As we were getting ready for school in the morning Shari said "There's a bear!" Sure enough there it was outside our back door on the hill side. Shari and I grabbed our cameras and began our chase (literally) to get pictures of the bear. Shari was in her pajamas, I was dressed and quickly slipped my feet into Zeek's work boots that were outside the front door (a new fashion statement). We hiked up the trail and took this picture which is directly under the tree house.

Then we followed it up the the street hiking behind the neighbor's houses. It's about 6 a.m. and still quite dark as you can tell. We lost him for a moment then found him ready to climb this tree.

Finally he made it to the top of the street, slipped under a fence and ran off.

Shari absolutely loved the adventure and loves to see animals in the wild. She has no fear that's for sure. It reminds me of when she was about two and looked out our kitchen window and said "Kitty." When we looked, there was a bear about the same size as this one.

As we went to leave for school a few moments later, we realized that the garage door had been left open and ....... well, the bear had some good snacks as he rummaged through the trash and left a nice mess to be cleaned up inside our garage.
Lucy is a good watch dog after all!
